Named USA Volleyball Male Beach Volleyball Player of the Year in 2012, Jake Gibb is no stranger to the Olympic village or the awards podium. Finishing out the 2012 season with a FIVB Swatch World Tour Championship Title with then partner Sean Rosenthal, this 6’7 sand giant has been gunning for Olympic Gold ever since his recent fifth place finish at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
As a late bloomer to the sport, Gibb did not take up beach volleyball until he turned 21 and is one of the few players on the AVP tour that did not play volleyball in college. Beginning his career back in early 2000, Gibbs would soon earn the AVP title of Most Improved Player and then in 2005, the title of AVP’s Most Valuable Player, AVP Team of the Year and FIVB Top Rookie. Partnering up with Sean ‘Rosie’ Rosenthal in 2006, the pair would remain side by side until 2012 even through Gibbs’ battle with testicular cancer in 2010. Together, Gibb and Rosie, won the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Event in Prague, tied for 5th at the Beijing Olympics, placed second at the FIVB Semifinal Match in Shanghai and won their first Grand Slam Gold Medal in Rome.
Gibb has partnered with seasoned veteran Casey Patterson for the 2013 season. Together, the duo have already taken home one Grand Slam Gold Medal from Shanghai, as well as 2 Silver Medal finishes at Grand Slam events in Argentina and Switzerland.
Gibb resides in Southern California with his wife Jane.
